The NSW Telco Authority is constituted under the Government Telecommunications Act 1991 (NSW) . On 1 September 2014, the Government approved a new circular to replace Premier’s Memorandum 2010-16. The new DFSI-2015-06-NSW Government Operational Communications Strategy circular provides guidance to agencies on ensuring that their radio and related communications investment, planning and spectrum licensing decisions are in line with the future direction of the sector.
The State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989 outlines the responsibilities of the Telecommunications Services Functional Area (TELCOFAC). TELCOFAC a business unit of the Authority that is an essential link between the emergency services organisations and telecommunications carriers. The Functional Area ensures the availability of communications during emergencies.
